Alfreton Ladies Choir

Repertoire

The repertoire for the Sonara Singers is chosen by the M.D. Liz Moulder with an emphasis on music that will reflect the strengths of the choir whilst entertaining the many different audiences that the choir perform to throughout the season. Each programme is especially chosen for the specific venue, occasion and audience. The choice of pieces are regularly changed throughout the year and always sung from memory to ensure the highest performance from the choir at all times.

Composers range from Thomas Morley, the 16th century madrigal composer, to composers from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic periods straight through the twentieth century with music from John Rutter, Michael Neaum and many other well-known choral composers of the time.

Music from the United States and Canada is also included. Collected by Liz on her travels around these countries in the past twenty years they are refreshingly simple but effective arrangements and melodic lines, providing variety and interest to the choir's repertoire.

What makes the choir different from many others, however, is the fact that, already, the choir have had four pieces especially composed for them, beginning with Rock Around The Clock by Peter Harrison in 1994 followed by The Young Sailor Boy, Michael Neaum; A Reminiscing Song by David Grundy and An Irish Blessing by Alex Patterson which was commissioned for the ladies choir by the Ripley Music Arts Festival in 2010.

Finally, the choir also sing popular pieces from musicals, the world of pop and jazz! An eclectic mix that will surely entertain all who perform as well as the audiences who support the choir and attend their many performances. These are some of the pieces in our wide ranging repertoire, taken from recent concert programmes.
